Blinken Says Haggling Must Stop After Hamas Requests Changes to Gaza Ceasefire Framework.

Negotiations continue as the secretary of state presses Hamas to accept a three-part proposal to bring a halt to hostilities in the Gaza Strip.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken gives a joint press conference with his Qatari counterpart in Doha on June 12, 2024.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed frustration over Hamas's proposed changes to a ceasefire plan intended to end the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip. Speaking in Doha, Blinken noted that while some changes were workable, others were not, leading to continued hostilities. Blinken emphasized that the proposal was nearly identical to terms previously accepted by Hamas and criticized their delayed and altered response. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan also commented, indicating that the Biden administration anticipated some negotiations but stressed the importance of reaching an agreement. Neither Blinken nor Sullivan detailed the specific changes requested by Hamas.
